German paratrooper gas mask and carrying bag set, « Stösser Operation »
Rare historical German paratrooper « Fallschirmjäger » gas mask and carrying bag set . This set was found in 2004 in a house undergoing renovation in the small village of Jalhay in the Ardennes, located a few kilometers from the Belle-Croix crossroads. The former owner of the farm was a lumberjack during and after the war, he recovered various paratrooper parts in the Fagnes.(Additional information will be given to the buyer).
On December 17, 1944 at 3:00 a.m., German paratroopers under the orders of Friedrich August von der Heydte jumped in the Hautes Fagnes 11 km north of Malmedy at the crossroads known as « Baraque Michel ». The objective given to Von der Heydte and his men was to take this crossroads and hold it for approximately twenty-four hours before being relieved by the 12th SS Panzer Division Hitlerjugend, which would hamper the flow of Allied reinforcements and supplies into the region. The operation will be a total failure (Operation Stösser).
Rare early German paratrooper « Fallschirmjäger » gas mask carrying bag, heavy green canvas construction with the green straps and « RZM » hook. Zipper is fully functional and made by « RHEINNADEL ». The bag itself is stamped on the flap with the maker's logo « AB » for « Auer » and on the inside with the Waffenamt. It comes with his original carrying straps, slightly fragile at the ring and hook areas. The original spare gas mask lenses container are present and full, the lid of the container is marked « AB ». The rubber plug is still present. The name of the Fallschirmjäger is written on the bag « H. Föster », research could be done. The original late-war gas mask comes with the bag, maker marked and dated « hnr43 ». The bag is complete « untouched » and in overall very good condition.
