German two-tone camouflage gas mask canister, « woodwork find / Normandy »
Description
A superb untouched German gas mask canister that has been camouflaged in a two-tone camouflage spray finish. In overall good condition with the nice amount of combat wear. The canister shows normal chips, nicks and scrapes nicely all over. The canister retains over 80% of its original spray camouflage finish. The two basic colors of green and brick brown are sprayed nicely. The colors remain subtle yet contrasting. The paint overall has a matte feel and never been touched or cleaned. The straps are present and original to the canister. This includes both the top main strap and belt carry strap. In the detailed photos below you can see some of the build up of debris and natural material over the decades. The canister's numbers are under the camouflage paint. Interior spare lens cover is stamped with the maker and dated « 1940 ». It was found in 2018 in Normandy in the department of Orne. Overall a very nice and very hard to find camouflage canister.
