M40 Luftwaffe three-tone camouflage bailing wire helmet
Description
A superb and rarer M1940 Luftwaffe three-tone camouflage baling wire combat helmet. It was found in 1998 in Jouy-en-Josas near Versailles, France. The helmet is a « Q64 » with a lot number of « DN251 ». The helmets exterior retains a really nice spray camouflage application in tan, brown, and green colors. The Luftwaffe decal is present, coming through the camouflage finish gives it a great look. The helmet retains its original period applied bailing wire. Done in two different metal and gauge sizes. The larger for the actual wrapping of the helmet and the thinner gauge for securing. In the close-up photos provided below you can see the oxidation and slight interaction of the wires to each other and the helmet itself. The camouflage finish of the helmet shows normal use to include scuffs and scraps along the top and rim of the helmet. Wear and paint loss is present on the location the wire came into direct contact with the camouflage finish helmet. The helmets interior remains untouched and undisturbed. Retaining a nice darker brown leather that is toned from use especially along the front. Complete with full length chinstrap that is maker marked and dated. Drawstring is present and secured. The liner is dusty and dirty and remains in its as found original state. The helmet is also nicely named along the back skirt in white paint to the owner « KLÜCKMANN, KARL » . A really choice and extremely difficult helmet to find. Top shelf example.
