US airborne switchblade pocket knife M2, « PRESTO »
WWII US switchblade knife. Commonly associate with paratrooper and airborne troops. This knife would of been located in the small vertical pocket under the collar of the jump jacket. Its main purpose was to cut the canopy risers when entangled. This is a long version model with no attachment ring and a black bone like designed handle from sturdy molded plastic, it is manufactured by « GEO. SCHRADE BRIDGEPORT CONN. » and on the reverse « PRESTO » and featuring various patent dates « MADE IN THE U.S.A. ». Blade is in very nice shape with slight normal sharpening marks present. It works perfectly with a strong spring action and locking mechanism. A scare accessory to any knife or airborne collector.
