« Bastogne-Sud » railway sign

Very nice Bastogne-Sud railway sign. Original period manufactured sign for the location of the Bastogne, Belgium's main train station in the area. The signs original purpose was for the establishment of the location. Was captured by the Germans when the country feel into their hands and repurposed on the back in typical style with the word « BAHNMEISTEREI ». The meaning of the word is office or area of the supervisor of the rail yard. Its painted in white paint with black letters and identical to the type found on period vehicle license plates. The front features the well know enamel blue and white that is baked on. Obvious signs of age, with some rust coming through and a few areas of paint and enamel loose. Size: 12cm x 58cm. Original sourced from an old collection in Pennsylvania, US than offered to the market by a auction house. One out of every seven US veterans originated from Pennsylvania. Various divisions were in the area including the 101st Airborne, 10th Armored, and US General Patton's 3rd Army. This is a very rare and historic sign with great history.
