Early M38 German paratrooper combat helmet with its splinter army cover, « ET68 »

Description

A superb M1938 German paratrooper « Fallschirmjäger » combat helmet set. Early-war construction. The helmet is an « ET68 » with a lot number of « 488 ». The helmet retains over 90% of its original factory matte green paint, as well as over 90% of its Luftwaffe decal. Mid-war spanner bolts are complete and untouched. The helmet's interior matches the exterior. The early liner is in very good overall condition, featuring an early aluminum liner band. The leather is soft, well preserved, and stamped with the manufacturer’s details and size markings. Chinstraps are fully present and in very good shape with early hardware intact. The helmet was found with an issue Heer splinter camouflage helmet cover, modified by the soldier to fit properly on its M38 paratrooper helmet. The cover shows honest wear, with a few snags and rust stains that perfectly match those present on the helmet, leaving no doubt that the cover has always been paired with this helmet. A magnificent matching set, in a very interesting configuration. Several well-known period photographs show paratroopers wearing Heer splinter camouflage helmet covers, notably during the Normandy Campaign. A choice and extremely desirable German paratrooper combat helmet set!
