Early USM1 helmet, 34th Infantry Division, named « Sgt. Hood »
Description
This is a very nice and early USM1 helmet named to a Sgt. Hood of the 34th Infantry Division « RED BULL ». The helmets exterior features a period hand painted divisional emblem in black and red paint. The detailed photos below show signs of age, crazing and natural wear. The factory finish rates in at roughly 80% remaining. Shows nice combat wear and paint loss. Some minor oxidation is nicely present through the shells surface. The helmet retains its original early web straps with early brass hardware. They exhibit some staining, oxidation and light fraying.The interior of the shell shows the application of the former owners rank and name original done in red paint « Sgt. Hood ». The helmets liner remains untouched and in undisturbed condition. Original an early Westinghouse liner with the application of grey rayon liner system. Early rectangular brackets and riveted chinstrap. It shows some wear with a few rips in some areas and the back neck rest strap missing but overall remains untouched. The liners exterior features a coat of darker green paint over the factory applied lighter green finish. The division emblem is period hand applied in black and red paint. Some minor paint loss is present. Overall a very rare early fully matching divisional combat helmet that has remained in its original state. Choice !
