German 10x50 power issued field binocular set, « HENSOLDT-WETZLAR »
Description
A near mint unissued factory produced pair of 10x50 power field binoculars with neck strap and carrier case. The binoculars are marked with maker « HENSOLDT-WETZLAR » on the bridge, indicating that these were produced prior to 1941, when the company started using 3 letter code « bmj ». The serial number « 14179 » is quite low, as by 1943 the company was well into 6 digit numbers. On the opposing side of the bridge is the series marking « DIALYT » and the power is also marked with the numbers « 10 X 50 ». The series was superseded by the Dienstglas model early in the war. They retain over 98% of their original factory applied tan finish. The binoculars retain the neck strap; marked with the maker’s code « eso », the date « 1941 » and the Waffenamt. Optics are relatively clear. The case is made from ersatz black « presstoff » material and frontal closure buckle is maker marked « frn 42 », the interior is maker marked and dated « bmj 1944 ». A rather difficult and desirable set of field binoculars to find.
