German « 8x60 blc » U-Boat Kommendantenglas

German 8x60 U-Boat Kommendantenglas. An excellent pair of the elusive and highly collectable Zeiss Kriegsmarine binoculars. These were issued exclusively for the use on U-Boats to the Commanders. The right shoulder plate shows the magnification, maker’s code (blc) and the serial number 49760, making these from a lot of 1350 produced in mid 1943. They retain their rough tan finish in very good condition with some minor storage wear. The paint is all original and has never been cleaned. The eyecups are without chips other than one small crack on the aluminum retain piece. The protective cover or « Benutzerkappe » is present, some slight crack to the right and rubber tie is very solid. Most important the optics are clear with the slightest of haze and have been stored properly over the years. No chips on the prisms and with the coating totally intact. The are perfectly useable. A very rare and beautiful pair of real U-Boat binoculars which will be extremely difficult to upgrade.
