Description

Superb German flag used to mark the drop zone for ground troops. During World War II, German paratroopers relied on specialized, visual ground-to-air signals rather than complex electronic radar beacons to mark drop zones (DZs) and landing zones (LZs) for incoming Junkers Ju 52 transport fleets. Because German paratroopers jumped with minimal personal gear, holding only a pistol and a grenade while heavy weapons came down separately, rapid assembly on the drop zone was vital. It is nicely maker marked and dated « 1937 ». It measures 70 × 480 cm. It is in mint unissued condition. A rare and uncommon piece of equipment!
