German Heer officer crusher cap, « Panzergrenadier »
Description
A period German Heer « Panzergrenadier » pipped crusher cap. A true and factory issued example « ALTER ART ». Piped in lime/toxic green for the « Panzergrenadier » branch of service. The cap's body is manufactured from a lightweight grey feldgrau ribbed material. The cap is an unissued depot piece. It retains both period applied officers bullion eagle and cockade. Cockade is factory hand stitched, the smaller bullion eagle is machine zig-zag stitched. The cap's visor itself is stil slightly pliable and exhibits light crazing throughout its top surface. Of interesting note is the impression on the officers chincord along the visor itself from storage over the decades. No rips, tears or stains visible. The interior of the crusher cap is what one wants to see. Complete celluloid sweatshield in place and properly wider zig-zag stitched. One small side crushed from storage. Only marked with the size « 55 1/2 » and void of any makers on the golden colored rayon lining. The cap retains its proper and factory period wider leather sweatband. Only faintly ink stamped with the maker along the interior which is still slightly pliable. The cap has an overall true combat look when displayed. This example probably saw most of its life put away in a chest during and after the time period. A very rare and almost never publicly offered example. Making this cap a must for any combat or headgear collector. Choice.
