German late-war special issue blackout reading light storage box, « Beleuchtung »
Description
A superb factory issued wooden storage box for the special issue blackout reading light and accessories. This type of blackout reading light was distributed to the flying personnel of the Luftwaffe but also to the armored crew members to be able to keep their hands free. It is fixed around the head with an adjustable elastic band, the electric cable is connected to a bakelite box which contained the battery and which could be stored in a pocket of the jacket. The light has two reading modes, normal mode with clear glass or night mode with red tinted glass. The wooden box retains over 98% of the tan factory paint. Full stencil lettering is complete. The interior compartments are present, along with two bakelite boxes as well as the rare waxed canvas holder. A harder to find and very desirable box.
