German M41 Heer tropical field cap for artillery, « Carl Halfar 1940 »
Description
A period German tropical issue M41 service field cap for an artillery enlisted man. Factory produced and of the earliest known examples. Constructed from classic light green cotton twill fabric as opposed to the darker olive green material that followed later. The cap shows real combat use, fading and sun exposure. Both set of air vent grommets are in place with oxidation clearly visible. Solid yet complete. Both set of « BeVo » tropical eagle and cockade are properly machine tight zig-zag stitched. Red soutache shows fraying but is still properly machine sewn and period applied. Also on the right side where it became loose retracted on a small portion by hand giving the cap a true combat look. The interior is textbook lined in red linen material. Manufactured by the famous and most desirable firm « CARL HALFAR / BERLIN », size stamped « 56 » and dated « 1940 ». This cap being issued and worn is also marked with the former soldiers last name and possible unit « Droll » and « 1. » in a stylized script. Interior shows use, staining and natural wear. One of the rarest and most desirable examples.
