German Police « Kriegs-Winterhilfswerk » barracks sign

Description

German Police « Kriegs-Winterhilfswerk » sign. Constructed from a thick piece of wood and intended to be hung outside a barracks or police location point. The « KWHW » was an annual drive by the Nationalsozialistische Volkswohlfahrt (National Socialist People’s Welfare Organization) to help finance charitable work. The sign is nicely made with a large amount of donation tacks creating the police emblem. Painted in three different colors, green, silver, and black. Sign is dated along the bottom « 1942 » and features a nice border with oak leave design. The back of the sign shows natural age with the present of some inactive worm holes. The sign is large and measures 55cm x 70cm. This example was a US Veteran obtained piece from a local estate auction several years ago and has never been in a collection. Although HJ and Heer ones are found rarely this is the only example we are aware of specifically for the police branch.
