Historical USM1 2nd Lieutenant helmet, 29th Infantry Division, « woodwork find / untouched »

A historic and extremely rare USM1 combat helmet to a 2nd lieutenant of the famous 29th Infantry Division. Recently recovered fresh out of the woodwork in September 2021 right out of a house renovation and clearing in the small village of « Gouvets / Manche » in « Normandy, France ». The helmet is untouched and in as-found condition. The helmet's exterior features moderate overall oxidation, and some pitting along the back. Fixed bale front seam example. The helmet has the famous 29th Infantry division blue grey emblem painted along the front. Underneath it features a yellow 2nd lieutenants bar. The back retains its classic and desirable vertical « ETO - Follow Me » stripe. Both factory applied khaki web chinstrap have survived the decades and remains intact. Although wear is present they are complete with brass hardware. Battle damage along the back neck area is present. From the primitive research done we can find only one possible KIA 2nd lieutenants that were attached to the division at this time period. Since the helmet was recovered in the area there is one almost definitive candidate being 2nd Lieutenant « JOHN T. BELL ASN O-1316860 ». A historic and extremely desirable example worthy of museum presentation. Choice !
