Identified USM1 3rd Armored Division fixed bale helmet, « Spearhead »
Description
A unique and exceptional identified USM1 fixed bale front seam 3rd Armored Division « SPEARHEAD » combat helmet. The helmet is identified to « CHESTER C. MICHALAK » serial number « 36042266 ». Michalak was a bridge foreman and mine detector operator of the 23rd Armored Engineer Battalion, 3rd Armored Division. He participated in all the campaigns with the 3rd Armored Division, he took part of the liberation of Belgium in September 1944, then went to the Ardennes for the Battle of the Bulge. The helmets exterior features a coat of OD green paint applied over the factory finish. It retains the « SPEARHEAD » and Armored Division emblems on each side. Both a precession painted by a talented hand. Great detail and natural age can be seen in the photos provided below. The helmet retains its factory web chinstraps. Soiled and named with early brass hardware still in place and fully functional. The interior shell is fully named and serial numbered. This helmet is published in the french « Militaria Magazine » number 248 and was found in the 90s in the region of Namur, Belgium. A choice and history offering.
