Kriegsmarine visor cap issued for a Korvettenkapitän to a Kapitän Zur See. Factory made example, non-removable top constructed of a good quality blue wool. Body shows use and aging. Eagle is toned/tarnished with a deep dark patina. Shows wear along the bottom of the national emblem from rubbing on the separately attached bullion wreath below. Wreath is attached separately with a black mohair type cap band. Some scuffs and nicks throughout the cap.The black leather chinstrap shows use but functional and held in place with two gilted anchored buttons showing also signs of patina and slight oxidation. Of special interest is the rarely encountered stamped version compared to the typical embroidered scalloped decoration found on the visor. The visor is also made from blue wool and its edge is a black patent leather reinforcement. Interior shows sweat stains, debris build up along the perimeter and normal evidence of prolong use. Initially we thought it was lined in a green rayon material but that was quickly dismissed after we looked under the leather sweatband. Lined originally in typical blue rayon but with wear and natural aging it has turned into a dark sea green. No evidence of a sweat shield or long gone. Sweatband is still supple and all attached without any repairs. We must say that this cap truly has seen service in the open waters either on a ship or u-boat! A unique rarity!
