Description
M42 Heer/Waffen-SS camouflage helmet. An untouched example with a unique camouflage scheme. Helmet is a M42 model, brush painted in two colors of a dark tan and a textured green. The exterior of the helmet retains all its period applied camouflage with some minor scuffs and marks. Helmet is unmarked regarding maker and shell size but a size « 64 » compared to other helmets, probably a late war produced example with a lot number of « 518 ». Interior remains untouched. Some tan paint can be seen on the visor area and rim that has dripped over. Named along the back skirt to a « WIRZ » written in a blue crayon pencil. Liner is fully intact and not loose. Leather is untreated and still supple. Doesn’t retain its drawstring but a piece of hemp type cord that has been there forever. Chinstrap is unmarked but original to the helmet and broken at the end, retaining buckle is present. Overall a very attractive helmet with late war color scheme nicely matching SS and vehicle camouflages.
