M35 Heer chicken-wire camouflage helmet « five colors »
Description
Beautiful M1935 Heer half-basket camouflage helmet. The helmet maker and size is not clearly visible but looks like « SE64 » and lot number « 075 ». It retains the vast majority over 95% of its paint. The colors used on this helmet are unique but have been encountered before on other period examples, although not all together. The paint is light green, marron, subdued yellow, orange, and slate grey. The base coat of light green was initially mixed with sand to give it the textured finish. The other colors were applied in what is reminisce of a WWI pattern or also found on Kunst Artillery Units. Finally a half basket wire was applied over the whole helmet. Wire is attached in typical style. Areas of interaction of the wire where it has rubbed and chipped the surface can be seen, slightly more wear on the dome of the helmet is shown in the photos. The liner is original and completely untouched to the helmet. It has been tied tightly and remained that way since its capture. Liner has the soldiers name in ink present « Fuchs ». The chinstrap is only in part present with the two endings there. We don't touch or alter any pieces and left it the way it was found. Along the back skirt of the helmet in white paint the soldiers name is seen again « Fuchs - O. ». One other interesting point is what appears to be three white fingerprints or markings along the wearers left side. Helmet was acquired from the veterans son in the US in 2015. Truly a unique top shelf helmet !
