M38 German Paratrooper Battle Damaged Single Decal Helmet

Description

A very nice and interesting M1938 German paratrooper « Fallschirmjäger » battle damaged single decal combat helmet. The helmet is an « ET68 » with lot number « 4986 ». The exterior of the helmet retains over 90% of its original factory applied dark feldgrau green paint finish in matte state. The helmet shows combat and field use. Proper edge and rim wear and some oxidation along the top. The Luftwaffe decal rates in at approximately 95% complete with some scraps, nicks present and retains a nice golden hue. All four of the helmets bolts are original to the helmet in untouched and undisturbed state. Of interesting note is the later combination of spanner bolts used. Including one spanner bolt without the two holes. The center front of the helmet has received shrapnel damage probably from a smaller size mortar or artillery round. The interior of the helmet is untouched and never disturbed. All interior bolts exhibit natural aging and still tightly attached. The leather liner is in great shape and still supple. It is size, maker and marked with the initials of the former owner. The chinstraps are fully present, supple and have been period repaired with metal wire and additional threading. The helmet was found very recently out of the estate of a US veteran. A photocopy of the letter is included which states when and by whom the helmet was recovered. « Frank Lambeth Company A of the 81st Chemical Mortar Battalion », he landed in Normandy on D-Day. A choice U.S. veteran bring back souvenir!
