M40 Heer ex-winter whitewash camouflage combat helmet, « SE64 »
Description
A M1940 Heer brush camouflage combat helmet with a former winter white-wash finish. The helmet is an « SE64 » with a lot number of « 6320 ». The helmet's exterior features the remains of a period white-wash winter camouflage finish. This was a paste based heavily on natural lime and was intended to be removed rather easily when the weather changed. It is still present in the nooks and crannies of the textured paint beneath and can be seen in larger detail in the photos below. Present in good condition around the split pins that is still tightly secured to the helmet. Overall the exterior shows wear to include a normal amount of scuffs, scrapes and abrasions. The interior is in good solid condition and complete. Nice light brown colored leather liner remains pliable. Drawstring is present. Leather chinstrap is complete with the maker but unreadable and 1940 dated. Some of the original feldrau paint when the skirt was painted is present on the aluminum liner band - a nice detail. Overall a nice complete and untouched combat helmet reminiscent of the winter campaigns.
