Description
This is an exceptional M1940 Luftwaffe geometric pattern sand textured camouflage combat helmet with a period application of chicken wire. The helmet is an « ET66 » with a lot of « 507 ». Sand or grit was mixed into the paint before application. Brush strokes with the sharp corners can be clearly seen as the example was painted by hand. The paint rates in at 90% with sharp edges in a basic grey and dark brown paint with some tan paint mixed. The helmet later received a period application of full basket chicken wire. Although the helmet has definitely seen combat it remains in great shape. The matte feel to the paint is still present. Split pins present and secured to the helmet while retaining their partial camouflage finish. The helmet's interior remains untouched and in its original state. The leather liner is complete showing combat use and wear but overall in great condition. The drawstring and original chinstrap to the helmet are also present. Normal dust and build up around the early liner band is present as well. The helmet is nicely painted along the back skirt with the former soldiers name « KUNZELMANN », roll number « 867 » and rank « Obergefreiter ». This particular helmet was recently acquired from a liquidated collection in the Southwest, USA. A choice example of a highly sought after camouflage chickenwire combat helmet.
