Superb and are M1940 Luftwaffe three-tone Normandy half-basket camouflage wire helmet. The helmet has a size and maker of « ET66 » and a lot number of « 202? ». The helmet retains 95% of the original three standard Normandy colors consisting of tan, brown, and green, that have been period spray applied. It has a typical half-basket wire attached and secured tightly. Although a typical half-basket has three retaining rods, this helmet looks to be a better made version with a fourth rod coming down the wearer's front bill. Oxidation and pettina is normal to see on untouched and uncleaned example, this can be seen on some of the close-up photos provided. Along the top of the helmet some small areas show chipping of the paint where the wire has come in direct contact with the helmets painted surface. The liner of the helmet is in nice condition and complete with its drawstring, wear can be seen and some dryness barely present. Along the back skirt of the helmet, we believe it changed hands from one soldier to another due to the application of a grey paint going over the first owners name and getting on the back retaining rod. The new owners name and rank is present and painted in a white paint « Oblt. Schütte ». This helmet was sourced from the woodwork only a few months ago by a colleague of ours and has never been in a collection before. Truly a fresh woodwork find and top shelf piece for even the most advance collectors.
