M40 Waffen-SS single decal combat helmet, « Foreign Volunteer »
Description
A very nice and extremely rare M1940 Waffen-SS single decal combat helmet for foreign volunteers. It is an « EF62 » with the lot number of « 808 ». The helmet was purchased over 30 years ago in the USA at a gun show. It is a single Army decal helmet that was modified for reissue to personnel of « foreign » SS units. The C.A. Pocher runic decal is applied over the Heer decal. The helmet shows combat use with typical to moderate wear including scuffs, scraps and oxidation evenly throughout the exterior. The helmet's exterior retains 90% of its factory applied feldgrau finish, the Waffen-SS decal rates in at 85%, crazing and scraps are present. A noticeable white-wash finish remains nicely throughout the helmets exterior from being white-washed during the early winter campings of the East, this can still be seen around the rivet area, the reverse of the leather liner and the chinstrap. The interior of the helmet remains untouched and undisturbed. The leather liner is in very good and supple condition, ink stamped with size « 55 ». It retains its original leather chinstrap, maker marked and dated « 1938 ». Some light dust around the perimeter is present as well. The helmet is named in white paint along the back skirt to the previous owner. The initials of the Waffen-SS soldier « G.O. » are painted in white on the dome.
