M42 Heer brush three-tone « Normandy » camouflage helmet, named
Description
A superb M1942 Heer three-tone Normandy camouflage combat helmet. Found several years ago in a house rue Louis Pasteur in Petit-Quevilly (76130), Mont-Saint-Aignan, France. The helmet is a size « 64 » with the maker difficult to make out. Lot number is « 0449 ». The helmet retains almost all of its original wide brush hand applied camouflage finish. In the three standard colors of tan, brown and green with a matte finish. Colors are still vibrant and contrasting. Detailed photos provided below show nice brush strokes done with an artistic hand. The split pints are present and complete. Some normal evidence of combat wear including some paint loose along the top, proper edge wear and light flaking in some areas. The Heer decal is slightly visible underneath the camouflage coating and can just be seen coming through to the surface with its border evident. The interior of the helmet remains untouched and in its original as found state. The rim is nicely painted all the way around in textbook tan paint. Named twice. Once to the former « Uffz. RATZ » than to the last owner which was another NCO « Uffz. WULF ». Liner is present with chinstrap and drawstring absent. The leather has seen better days but is original to the helmet, the soldier was most probably wounded or killed, evidence of blood on the leather. Some rust and oxidation present alton the dome and front lid. Overall a superb untouched brush painted true Normandy combat helmet with an eye catching look.
