M42 Heer/Waffen-SS half-basket chicken wire burlap camouflage combat helmet
Description
A unique M1942 Heer/Waffen-SS combat helmet with the half-basket application of burlap/scrim. The helmet is an « NS64 » with lot number «5792 » stamped on the rear of the helmet. The exterior features a textbook half-basket chicken wire application. The addition of burlap/scrim fabric interwoven into the chicken wire in multiple different colors adds a unique look to the helmet. The burlap is very hard and brittle in certain areas. At least two areas of minor paint can be seen on the burlap. The exterior retains dust and debris and should remain untouched. The chicken wire is the first encountered with the wire going slightly into the air vents. The paint on the M42 remains matte and undisturbed. Several detailed photos are provided below. Scraps and nicks are present on the shell. Wear around the rim and all the detailed points are present. The helmets interior remains in good condition. Leather liner is complete with some areas of damage but overall all present. Chinstrap is partially complete with a small section missing. Drawstring present. Leather liner has one broken tongue but still attached to the drawstring. The helmet is named twice. Once named to the former German soldier « PREUHSER ». The second name is the US veteran that acquired the helmet « MAILLOUX ». Mr. Mailloux was a US veteran that returned home and first settle in Long Island, NY. He was a doctor and practiced in the NY/NJ area. The helmet was acquired by a former well known collector that passed away in 2006.
