Description

Stunning M1942 Luftwaffe three-tone sawdust camouflage combat helmet. Helmet is an « NS66 » and with a lot number of « B3260 ». The helmets exterior retains a really unique application of three color spray camouflage finish with a mixture of heavier size wood chips. Dominant color is the the mustard yellow as a base application with green and a very dark brown as secondary colors. Similar colors have been seen on another example with veteran provenance. Helmets exterior retains 95% of the original spray applied finish. Matte colors and contrasting. A couple normal small scuffs and scraps. The detailed photos really bring out the texture of the helmet. One nice feature in the photos shows that a split pin was slightly loose during the camouflage application and you can see how the paints settled in-between. The interior is complete and undisturbed/untouched. Retaining a late war liner in supple condition and barely worn. Matching the condition of the camouflage exterior finish. Some minor flacking of the leather around the rim and what looks to be light blood staining. Drawstring is still present and retains its original chinstrap. The chinstrap is marked along the tip « 1 ». Slight dust and build up all the way around the rim.  And also some remnants of the mustard yellow paint in several areas around the interior rim. The helmet is one of the best examples of period camouflage we have seen to date featuring a nice balance of a unique yellow color and sawdust finish. Its exceptional preservation is quite rare. The helmet was sourced out of the Midwest, USA.
