Rare M18 German Heer transitional double decal « ear-cut-out » combat helmet, « Funkmeister »
Description
A classic M1918 German Heer transitional double decal « EAR CUT-OUT » combat helmet. The helmet is maker mark but the marking is unreadable because of the heavy apple green paint. The helmet is sized in at 64 as noted by the size along the dome. Exterior shows nice use to include normal scuffs and scrapes. Some paint loose is present around the ear vents. Early green feldgrau paint over 95% of the helmet's surface. Decals are both present and rate in over 80% with some minor flaking. Really nice toning and some crazing is present. Split pins are complete and tightly affixed to the helmet. The interior shows a nice leather liner system that is complete. The leather is supple and ink stamped for size « 57 » and named. The back of the skirt retains the rank and name of the former soldier in white paint « Funkmeister Kupka ». The leather chinstrap is stamped with B and period slightly shortened. A really nice and hard to find early combat helmet that is rarely offered on the public market.
