Very nice and rare USM1 chaplains helmet of the 34th infantry division « Red Bull ». Exterior of the helmet retains its majority of factory applied dark green paint with slight haze of rust from prolonged storage. Typical paint loose around the rim. The Chaplains cross is nicely hand applied in white paint over the remains of the the 34th Infantry Divisional symbol, which was scratched before the application of the cross. Fixed bales are present and secure. The straps are original to the helmet and are a nice tan color web and early brass hardware. A faint serial number can be seen in ink « 7857H ». Helmet is marked on the interior « 74B ». Helmet is complete with an early « Westinghouse » liner featuring the 34th Infantry Divisional emblem hand painted on the front. Liner straps and webbing is early rayon in grayish/white material. Exterior shows normal wear with minor paint loss on the liner. Nicely named in stylized lettering and white paint to « JULIS », the white paint is identical to the paint used for the Chaplain cross. Missing only its chinstrap but metal hardware present. An extremely rare helmet in undisturbed condition and highly desirable to a special branch in the US Armed Forces during WWII.
