Unique German M1940 single decal Heer combat helmet with vet art, « woodwork sourced ». Captured combat helmet during the war and painted for Joe Collins of the 29th Infantry Division. Helmet originally sourced in a public sales platform in the US directly from the family and has never before been in a collection. The helmet's exterior is painted in a matte dark blue paint. It is from the soldier dedicated « To my Best Girl! » and signed Joe along the front bottom. It includes D-DAY with the logo of the 29th Infantry Division and is adorned on each side with an art deco style display of « NORMANDY » and « BRITTANY / JUNE 6th 1944 ». Each of the wearer's sides are painted in white with blue undertones « BREST » and « ST. LO ». Some of the other towns that the division liberated include St. Laurent, Paris, Vire, Isigny, Percy Rennes, Verville Sur Mer, Caen, St. Clair and Tessy. The dome of the helmet is painted with a large white swastika on a blue background to simulate the Infantry Units emblem. Adorned on the four sides with Belgium, Holland, France and Germany. The helmet's interior is untouched and as-found. Overpainted in the same exterior color and showing paint transfer on the original leather liner still intact. The chinstrap is complete and remains original to the helmet. It has formed the shape of a « V » from prolonged hanging over the decades. Former German soldier's name is under the dark blue painted finish. One of - if not the best US veterans artwork helmet we have ever offered! A selected offering.
