USAAF type A-2 painted flight jacket Sgt. Zeiner, « ETO - HEAVEN CAN WAIT »
Description
A choice USAAF Type A-2 painted flight jacket belonging to Sergeant James K. Zeiner (13153712) of the « 442nd Bombardment Squadron - 320th Bombardment Group ». The jacket is manufactured and still retains its neck tag by « PERRY SPORTSWEAR INC » of Newburgh, N.Y. Sized in « 42 » and a good torso displayable jacket that would fit a standard torso with ease. Front zipper is complete and fully functional. Tab is marked and manufactured by « SERVAL », the zipper has been professionally replaced and looks to have been period done. Waistband and cuffs are factory applied and original to the jacket. As for their condition a few snags and rips on the cuffs but typical on these jackets that were actually worn. Leather is in supple condition and unrestored. Snaps are complete and all present. They show some evidence of verdigris. The interior lining is complete and made from a light brown linen material. Some stains and natural discoloration is present. The back of the jacket is nicely period hand painted. The artwork depicts crew members looking at an attractive woman and her dog walking to the right. The one crew member wearing a typical flight cap trying to lead to the left. Suggesting that the current time is to accomplish their mission at hand and « HEAVEN CAN WAIT ». Clever and unique. Attached below is a scan of a period photo showing the same jacket worn by Sgt. Zeiner and being held up by the crew. Included with the jacket are copies of Sgt. Zeiner's Honorable Discharge, various photos of the crew, citation of Air Medal, enlisted record and personal letter when the jacket was purchased directly from the veteran himself. Sergeant James K. Zeiner complete his 35 mission over the « ETO » with 2 mission over France and 33 missions over Nazi Germany.
