Description

A magnificent and rare USM1 combat helmet to the 1st Infantry Division « Big Red One ». The helmet is a fixed bale front seam with a lot number of « 138A ». The helmet's exterior features a period hand painted 1st Infantry Division emblem that was later painted around with a coat of typical OD green paint. The helmets paint rates at 95% present. The helmet retains its original factory applied chin straps made from a classic web material and retains their early brass hardware. Several areas of the period paint can be seen on the chin straps in the detail photos below. The shell's interior is in good condition and nicely named in white paint to the former soldier « RANDALL » and underneath « COM ». The matching condition « FIRESTONE » helmet liner is complete and in very nice condition. The exterior paint rates at 90% with an officer's lieutenant rank scratched off. The webbing liner suspension system is complete and in untouched/ undisturbed condition. Leather sweatband and chinstrap are complete, supple and fully functional. Dust and dirt are present along the top. The helmet was sourced recently out of a collection in Normandy, France. A desirable helmet to one of the most famous US Infantry Divisions of World War Two.
