Description
A superb USM1 fixed bale front seam VII Corps Captain's combat helmet. The helmet retains over 90% of its factory dark « OD » green finish. Semi-rough in feel. Period hand painted 7th Corps emblem along the front. Underneath Captain's rank in white. The back retains its vertical classic « FOLLOW ME / ETO » stripe. Normal to moderate wear around the helmet to include scuffs and scraps. In the detailed photos below it shows nice age, toning and patina to all of the above. Helmet retains its factory khaki green chinstraps still sewn in place and retaining their factory hardware. Matching liner makes this a complete helmet. Manufactured by the firm « WESTINGHOUSE » and marked on the dome. Liner is complete with chinstrap, earlier neck strap and leather adjustable buckle sweatband . The VII Corps was one of the two important Assault Corps that participated in continental Europe taking place on « D-Day » in « June 1944 ». As one of the two assault corps for the U.S. First Army during Operation Overlord, targeting Utah Beach via amphibious assault. For operation « Overlord » the 82nd and 101st Airborne Divisions were attached to VII Corps. After the « Battle / Invasion of Normandy » VII Corps participated in many battles during the advance across France and then invaded Germany until the surrender of the Third Reich in May 1945. A great helmet to one of the more important Corps during the « ETO » campaigns. Choice.
