Superb and rare USM1 combat helmet of the « 101st Airborne Division - 327th Glider Infantry Regiment ». The helmet is a front seam fixed bale example. The helmet's exterior is in untouched condition and retains well over 90% of its paint to include the desirable white painted unit markings of the 327th Glider Infantry Regiment. The « SHAMROCK » is painted on both sides of the helmet with a « TICK » positioned at 12 o'clock to signify Headquarters. In the detailed photos below clear evidence of the you can see what is referred to as « NORMANDY » Invasion markings that were later covered. Evidence of a horizontal « FOLLOW ME » strip is present on the back of the helmet. The helmet retains its factory applied web chin straps with early brass hardware. A laundry number is slightly visible on one of the chin straps. The helmet retains its original and matching « Westinghouse » manufactured paratrooper liner. The exterior retains the mirror image emblems and markings as the helmet shell. The name « McCowan » is present along the back and done in red pencil. Overall retaining over 90% of its paint with plenty of matching and natural wear. The interior of the liner is modified with the removal of « A-YOKES » and a special application of medical tape wrapping the back sweatband adjustable buckle for a more comfortable feel. Overall a really nice and untouched set from one of the most famous divisions of the Second World War. Choice!
