Description
A superb USM1 combat helmet to the « 327th Glider Infantry Regiment » of the famous « 101st Airborne Division ». The helmet is a front seam fixed bale with a lot number of « 489 ». The exterior features a period and highly desirable shamrock on each side. The « TICK » marking is positioned at 3 o'clock to correspond with the 1st Battalion of the regiment. One can clearly see in the detailed photos below the correct Normandy paint as well as the correct small circular dot. The « NCO / FOLLOW ME » stripe on the back of the helmet is present and complete. The helmet retains its factory web chin straps that have the correct early type brass hardware. A faint but partial serial number is black paint is slightly visible along the front rim of the helmet. The helmet also comes complete with its original liner. The liner is manufactured by « WESTINGHOUSE » and retains over 90% of its factory finish. Matching wear and oxidation present around the rim of the liner to correspond to the steel helmet's interior. A nice period factory green and white grease penciled Staff Sergeant insignia is applied on the front which corresponds to the « Follow Me » stripe on the shell itself. The liner's suspension system is in good condition. Heavily oxidation from prolonged storage is evident with dust and dirt showing. The leather early sweatband is present as well including a chinstrap. An exceptional and highly desirable US helmet to a legendary division that became famous during the Second World War.
