Description

A period USM1 U.S. Navy medic''s combat helmet set. The helmet is a front seam fixed bale that has been period overpainted in a classic battleship blue paint. The helmet also received a nice medium size red painted « Red Cross ». Blue paint was first etched or removed by scratching the factory and blue coating away. Later the rich red paint was applied. The helmet shows some moderate wear to include normal scuffs, scraps and some light scratches to also include one ding along the top. The shell retains its period factory applied khaki web chin straps in place. They retain their black hardware. Stamped along the interior front with serial number « 639B ». The helmet retains its period combat helmet liner. Liner is manufactured by « FIRESTONE ». It is almost complete with only the leather chinstrap absent. Good period and gentle use is evident. Some paint loss along the exterior. Overall a very nice and hard to find U.S. Navy medic's helmet that was a common sight on the beaches during the Normandy Invasion in the summer of 1944.
