This helmet shell was found at a flea market in northern Belgium only a few years ago, it has remained in its as found condition, never been touched or cleaned. Shell is marked along the front interior with lot number « 2191B ». It features the rare early 1st Battalion « HH » red insignia on each side of the helmet, a NCO bar is painted on the back of the helmet and a large circle made with gas detection paint is present on the top of the helmet. D-bales are present, one has one of the two fasteners broken. A remnant of a chinstrap with a snap is present, an interesting detail is the use of an elastic from a parachute intertwined in the half-moon fastener and the chinstrap. A partial A.S.N. « 3120 » is painted in black on the inside of the shell, identifying the soldier « Paul F. Milstead » with army serial number « 15323120 » and aged 29 on D-Day. He was wounded in both legs by a German machine gun on June 6, 1944 above Sainte-Mère-Eglise before even touching the ground.
