Waffen-SS M38 palm tree camouflage smock
Description
An early example of a very rare Waffen-SS M38 first pattern camouflage smock. Produced in the pattern referred to as « Palm » on a smooth linen based cotton duck material. This smock is the first one in the series and produced in the desirable darker color variation with emphasis on the darker green color. Both sides of the smock have the same identical pattern. The colors on the smock are very strong and vivid. Cuffs are made from the same material, different from the main body, and show the same printing flaws on both side spring and autumn sides. The overall condition of the smock is excellent with slight use. It shows some small areas of rips and nips with a repair repair on one pocket. The smock retains its original drawstring and hand sewn eyelets along the neck and collar. The elastic bands on the smock are all present including the cuffs, waist, and the collar being relaxed but present as well. A rather nice feature is the bottom reinforcement fabric on the spring side is a piece of « Plane Tree 1 » misprinted, showing the block number, and used even on an early produced smocks. A choice and highly desirable early smock that was found in the Belgian Ardennes in the 70’s.
