WWII Bastogne enamel directional road sign
Description
An original WWII period Belgian made road directional sign. The sign's purpose was to inform traffic on a major road of the distance between the current location to the city of Bastogne. The sign is manufactured in country from a thick sheet metal enameled in white and blue. Dimensions: 30x130cm. Several mounting holes are present along the top and bottom. The sign has been exposed to the elements. Shows natural use and some flacking along the front. This particular sign was sourced out of an old collection that was acquired directly from a farmhouse in the vicinity of Baraque de Fraiture. Although many reproductions have been offered on the market by well established auction houses this particular example is original. A very rare and highly desirable sign for the town made famous by the 101st Airborne Division during the famous Battle of the Bulge.
